If your workouts aren’t having the desired result (or any result at all), here’s how to change things up, enhance your performance and achieve your goals.
Know your “why” and set workout goals
The first step to a successful workout is clarity on why you’re working out in the first place. What do you want to get out of your training? Is your primary goal to lose weight, gain muscle or improve fitness? You need a strong purpose to succeed.
Different goals require different approaches, too. If you don’t know how to set your goals, you might need to work with a fitness or nutrition professional who can develop a personalised program.
Once you’ve set your goals, monitor them weekly. Write down the exercises you did, how you felt and any other information that will help you determine if you’re on track. There’s nothing like achieving a goal to keep you motivated!
If you’ve set goals and you’re not moving as quickly as you’d hoped, don’t be afraid to rethink your strategy and set new goals. Goals are fluid.
Get the right gear
You don’t need to look Insta-famous or spend big on gear to achieve your workout goals but feeling comfortable and confident while exercising is essential. If your singlets have sweat stains, your leggings are see-through or your shoes have holes, it’s time to invest in some new gear.

Other apps bring together like-minded people to share their activities, race each other and make exercising a bit more exciting.
Focus on recovery
If you’re always feeling too tired to get the most out of your workout, you may not be recovering adequately between sessions. Make sure you:
- Hydrate during your workout to prevent dehydration

- Stretch and keep moving around after your workout to avoid injury.
